The summer struggles notwithstanding, Federer’s still able to go deep into tournaments. He was a few stray forehands away from beating Nadal in Cincinnati. It’s not totally inconceivable  he could win next month in New York or next year in Melbourne or Wimbledon. It will be quite difficult, however. John McEnroe has it right.
